The Manager, Technical Accounting & Compliance is responsible for the company’s external financial reporting, technical accounting positions and special accounting projects.

This role assists the Sr. Manager of Technical Accounting & Compliance with the oversight of internal and external audits, evaluates accounting pronouncements to determine impact to the company and leads the redesign or strengthening of accounting policies and processes that contribute to more efficient growth and operational effectiveness.

The Manager, Technical Accounting & Compliance reports to the Sr Manager, Technical Accounting & Compliance and manages a team of at least one direct report.

Critical contributions this role is counted on to deliver include:

  • Oversees monthly financial consolidation package and annual stand-alone financial statements and disclosures submission to Parent Company while ensuring financial reporting is in accordance with international financial reporting standards.

  • Keeps abreast of current developments in accounting guidance and literature including the preparation of statements of position for the application of new IFRS and assists DVP, Finance & Corporate Controller in applying appropriate concepts.

  • Develops accounting practices and policies to ensure adequate internal control over all financial transactions according to financial principles and governmental regulations.

  • Evaluates internal controls, and reports to management on findings and recommendations and participates in process re-engineering and other initiatives to ensure appropriate internal controls are incorporated.

  • Evaluates all financial systems and procedures and implements changes and improvements to increase accuracy, control and timely reporting. 

  • Identifies and implements accounting function process improvements and enhancements that drive operational efficiency.

  • Creates an energizing work environment that supports the Company’s high-performance culture while ensuring an efficient and flexible organization.

The ideal candidate has a strong financial reporting background and is business oriented, skilled at leading projects, and works well in a team environment.  You are proactive with problem identification and remediation solutions and passionate about identifying process efficiencies and improvements that are balanced within a sound control environment.

You’ll be most successful in this role if you have:

  • Hands on experience analyzing and implementing new accounting standards including documenting statement of position that was successfully audited.

  • Strong planning, project management and analytical skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact and build relationships across all levels of the organization and externally.

  • Deep knowledge of IFRS or GAAP

In order to take on these challenges, you’ll need to have:

  • 5+ years’ experience with a public accounting firm, Big 4 highly preferred

  • Skilled Corporate Account, preferably in consumer products or a manufacturing environment

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Experience with technical accounting and financial reporting (SEC reporting is a plus)

  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical application of GAAP or IFRS

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
