Chemist 1

Opelika, AL

The Chemist I is responsible for performing physical and chemical tests using instrumental analysis and wet chemistry tests. This role tests raw materials, finished goods, stability, and special samples to determine identity, purity, composition, and strength. The Chemist I reports to the Supervisor, Quality Control. 

Key Responsibilities 

Critical contributions this role is counted on to deliver include: 

  • Performing physical and chemical analyses of raw materials, finished products, stability and special samples using wet chemical and major instrumentation such as NIR, FTIR, UV-Visible, GC, ICP, NMR and HPLC. 

  • Documenting and submitting all raw data and results 

  • Preparing and standardizing materials used in chemical analyses 

  • Conducting scheduled calibration of laboratory instrumentation (such as thermometers and weighing balance) 

  • Documenting all data in Lab notebook according to cGMP 

  • Ensuring that any abnormal results are reported immediately for investigation

Critical Success Factors 

You’ll be most successful in this role if you have:  

  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot production issues related to quality and/or operational issues while meeting deadlines 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple levels of employees across multiple functions 

  • Working knowledge of laboratory equipment (Such as HPLC, UPLC, GC, UV or ICP), safety, quality, and computer systems 

Capabilities & Skills Required 

In order to take on these challenges, you’ll need to have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, or related science 

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Computer skills in data entry and processing 

  • Ability to conduct mathematical calculations 

  • Attention to detail

Annual Pay

Annual Pay Range

$46,865.00 - $70,246.00

This represents the minimum and maximum base salary range for this role, plus annual incentive. Various elements are used to determine a candidate’s starting salary such as job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in the role.  This information is provided to applicants in accordance with state and local laws.
