Hybrid Schedule
We are seeking a Packaging Engineer with a healthy dissatisfaction with non-value-added activities who can find and implement creative solutions to maximize supply chain efficiency, reliability, and customer value. Gathers and understands customer packaging requirements in order to optimize components and configurations using lean principles and value analysis techniques. An analytical and continuous improvement mindset that leverages data to draw insights and maximize business impact. Demonstrates a high level of subject matter expertise in packaged goods and can influence internal and external groups to implement improvements and drive resolution.
Responsibilities:
Evaluates opportunities and executes improvements on the packaging bill of materials and components for post-commercialized products.
Executes changes to packaging components of post-commercialized products to align with the strategic goals of the organization.
Creates and executes packaging test protocols and methods. Analyze test data and present test results and conclusions to support the improvement of current designs.
Partners closely with Procurement and Suppliers to understand the supply chain of packaging components and implements solutions to improve reliability.
Works closely with key business partners to maximize customer value and/or reduce cost.
Functions as the packaging component subject matter expert for Technical Operations and may assist in the training of Pharmavite personnel when required.
Leverages professional network of vendors, consultants, and educators to identify innovative solutions and future opportunities.
Prior to the introduction of a change, the Packaging Engineer conducts an impact assessment and engages stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation.
Ensures cGMP, regulatory compliance, and change control procedures are followed when implementing changes.
Serves as a consultant on packaging Kaizen events and packaging batch records. May serve as a resource and consultant to other Packaging Engineers and personnel within the company.
Travel: up to 10%
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Packaging or a related Engineering discipline. A graduate-level degree in Packaging or a related field is preferred.
Certification:
None required, but a Certified Packaging Professional from the Institute of Packaging Professionals is preferred.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of three years of success in design, development, and/or testing of packaging components in CPG, food, pharmaceutical, or dietary supplement industries.
Experience in products with a wide variety of packaging materials, particularly bottles, closures, paperboards, and flexible films, and using appropriate packaging testing methodologies.
Experience in ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), ISTA (Institute of Safe Transit Association) for use in evaluating packaging performance and barrier properties. Experience with filling and packaging production equipment. Experienced with IQ/OQ/PQ (Initial Qualification/Operational Qualification/Production Qualification) as part of packaging processes.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Application of Continuous Improvement and/or Value Methodology concepts as it relates to packaging components.
Excellent communication and presentation skills. Comfortable presenting information in front of large groups and the ability to sell change within the organization.
Proven interpersonal skills to positively affect the results of cross-functional and internal teams. Highly motivated and efficient in driving measurable results.
Knowledge of FDA and ISO requirements related to packaging and labeling, ensuring robust package validation and qualification.
Strong project management and organizational skills, demonstrated technical problem-solving ability.
Knowledge of packaging components, material compatibility, and technologies related to development, testing, and production.
Knowledge of primary and secondary packaging systems and processes, manufacturing fill/finish equipment and processes, material science, and quality systems.
Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, MS Project, one or more drawing programs (Auto CAD, Packaging, Adobe Illustrator, or similar programs), as well as the ability to learn Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and ERP systems.
Physical Requirements:
General office environment. Requires occasional travel to other sites, suppliers, conferences, and trade shows. Occasional lifting of boxes weighing 25 to 50 lbs.
Environment:
Exposure to disagreeable elements is negligible. Will be based in the corporate office and travel to manufacturing sites as needed.
Safety:
The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures without endangering the health or safety of self or others.

The salary range for this position is based on national standards. For candidates in California and the New York metro, the Target Base Pay Range is $86,000.00 - $142,000.00, to reflect the cost of living and market conditions in those areas.
Actual compensation will take into account a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location, education, experience, qualifications and job-related skills. It is not typical for an individual to be hired above the midpoint of the range for their role, and compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. Base pay is only one component of our total rewards offerings, and we will take the full offering into consideration when presenting an offer of employment.
