The Sr Manager, Innovation Science & Technology, and Strategic Sourcing serve as the technical member of a cross-functional team dedicated to creating innovation (product, packaging, business models). The connector with internal experts - in Science and Technology (Nutrition Science, Product Research, Medical and Scientific Communications, and R&D) and Procurement -- and external experts such as ingredient suppliers and co-manufacturers, this person is responsible for turning an idea into a feasible solution. The Sr. Mgr., Innovation Science & Technology, and Strategic Sourcing report to the Divisional VP, of Innovation who manages the Innovation team.

Critical contributions this role is counted on to deliver include:

  • Be a change agent, defining new ways of developing and sourcing product and packaging solutions internally and externally, helping the organization become more effective and agile.
  • Responsible for understanding consumer needs behind our Strategic Platforms and working with Science & Technology and Regulatory to propose formulations, forms, and claims to support the design of a consumer solution.
  • Responsible for scouting and conducting the early evaluation of new ingredients and co-man to deliver on a product concept when current suppliers do not meet our needs. Partners with Procurement, Quality, and R&D to ensure that our standards can be satisfied. Works with Finance and Procurement in identifying COGS targets and negotiating quotes.
  • Creates and executes a strategic plan to address the specific needs of the strategic platforms, which includes product development, ingredient sourcing, and manufacturing to commercialize fast and nimble solutions.
  • Builds an ecosystem of suppliers that can work collaboratively with Pharmavite in the development and commercialization of products that stretch beyond current product platforms.
  • Responsible for building a collaborative cross-functional ecosystem within the organization to translate a concept into a product that can be commercialized.

The ideal candidate is a creative thinker and stronger communicator who can effectively connect technical experts to develop distinctive solutions that meet consumer needs. This person leverages his/her technical expertise and broad business view to envision possibilities and deliver growth through innovation.

You'll be most successful in this role if you have:

  • Strong discovery skills, particularly questioning, observing, and experimenting.
  • A proven passion for science as a business with interest and understanding of the business side of innovation.
  • Success in creating, developing, and launching innovation in the market.
  • A scientific generalist who can translate consumer needs to a scientist and scientific concepts to a consumer benefit.
  • Knowledge and experience in leveraging R&D co-man and manufacturing technologies to scale new products in supplements, food, and/or beverages.
  • Experience in co-man and ingredient evaluation and sourcing, including price negotiations.

In order to take on these challenges, you'll need to have:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in product development and innovation roles. Vitamin and Supplements experience preferred. CPG or OTC Pharmaceutical experience is a plus.
  • Experience working in a highly entrepreneurial or start-up environment is required.
  • Flavor development and Sensory experience is a plus.
  • Proven track record of launching new products in the market.
  • Experience with nutrition-focused products and health benefit led claim development.
  • A four-year college or university degree required or it's equivalent in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or other related science degrees.
