Lead Mechanic (NIGHTS 12 Hr Shift)

Responsible for performing a variety of skilled mechanic and leadership role to facilitate the operation of production equipment, preventative maintenance, and complex mechanical and facilities repair.  This is the senior level of the job family, and incumbents is expected to assume responsibility for trouble shooting and repairing the most complex mechanical, electrical, PLC, and facilities malfunctions. The focus of this role is the facilitation of maintenance for the entire plant during the shift. The tasks will include monitoring plant needs and generating documentation and analysis of shift performance. The role will involve direct hand on problem solving as a significant part of the responsibilities

  • Facilitates shift performance as needed to accomplish all scheduled tasks.

  • Interacts with other leaders to evaluate and understand present and future requirements for allocating staff to meet the needs of the plant.  Provides input on key performance metrics to maintenance leadership as it pertains to job performance of maintenance technicians.

  • Reports Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) each shift.

  • Teaches others the fundamentals of working with and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems including PLC’s.

  • Uses all necessary hand tools, portable power tools, machine tools, electrical/diagnostic equipment, fabricating equipment, and material handling equipment to support and make repairs to all production equipment which may include; facilities and equipment such as motors, pumps, PLC’s, conveyor belts, fans, etc; examines equipment to diagnoses problems; disassembles machines and repairs/replaces broken parts; constructs new parts; adjusts functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary. 

  • Uses Root Cause Analysis tools to help develop detailed preventative maintenance program on production equipment on both mechanical and electrical equipment. This includes daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections and lubricating of all moving parts. Performs comprehensive preventive maintenance on all equipment and identify items as part of a Predictive Maintenance program to improve overall reliability of the equipment.

  • Supports and Completes production run set-ups and changeovers on all production equipment.

  • Accomplishes special projects including participating in the planning and design, and then making new installations, modifications and fabrications for equipment.

  • Responsible for the Overhauls/rebuilds on all equipment. Demonstrates an ability to analyze problems before they become failures and implement effective solutions.

  • Develops and maintains knowledge ranging from proficient to extensive on all equipment in production and packaging. This includes all industrial equipment used by Pharmavite.

  •  Reviews maintenance manuals of equipment when troubleshooting a problem or to learn how to execute repairs.

  • Consults External Technical Resources to aid in problem resolution in a timely manner.

  • Identifies needed parts and orders them, within approval limits, as necessary.

  • Participates in Continuous Improvement Teams and in initiating projects related to operations to improve efficiency and reliability of the equipment.

  • Develops training programs for all Mechanic III for Maintenance program to insure technical knowledge is developed in all Mechanic III positions on all equipment.

  • Plans complex and long-term projects, including materials and resource planning.

  • Uses computerized maintenance management system to access information and generate reports.

  • Performs duties in compliance with standard operating and safety procedures. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


Completion of a two-year Technology program is preferred. High School Diploma or its equivalent is required.


Maintenance/technical certification preferred.


Requires a minimum of six years of related experience in Technical/Maintenance positions.



  • Leadership, customer service, and conflict resolution skills.

  • True multi-craft technical capability. (PLC, Mechanical, Electrical)

  • Ability to analyze data and develop improvement plans.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in administrative and electronics categories.

  • High skill level in troubleshooting and, where no procedures exist, creating new methods to make repairs.

  • Skills that range from proficient to extensive in the set up, repair and troubleshooting in industrial maintenance activities that are included in the following categories: mechanical, industrial electricity, fabrication, and PLC’s (machining, welding, wiring, writing PLC programs, etc.). 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows operating system and software applications (i.e. spreadsheets or databases).

  • Fluent English skills to read/understand complex maintenance manuals, safety procedures, research technical publications for information, communicate with supervisors and others, and maintain routine records.
