Position Summary:

Responsible for supervising all activities necessary for the cleaning and sanitizing of the entire facility and coordinating activities for dietary supplement safety and sanitation programs. Includes management of developing, organizing, and validating the policies and procedures that pertain to the facility’s sanitation and pest control programs. Responsible for the supervision and training of the sanitation staff. Understands and incorporates all applicable sanitation, safety, and environmental standards required by Pharmavite, customers and regulators into policies and practices. Develops, maintains, and executes Plant Master Sanitation program.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages adherence to current Good Manufacturing Practices with regards to sanitation.

  • Monitors and audits, adjusting as necessary, processing equipment cleaning systems to ensure optimal operation.

  • Ensures compliance with all company and regulatory product quality standards, sanitation standards, dietary supplement safety standards, employee safety and environmental standards.

  • Works closely with management and production personnel on sanitation problems, recommending changes to improve sanitation policies, procedures, and standards.

  • General knowledge and understanding of cleaning practices for equipment and familiarity with the breakdown/reassembly of production equipment.

  • Develop checklist for the breakdown, cleaning, and sanitizing of all manufacturing equipment.

  • Assists in development of cleaning protocols and execution of validations for new equipment.

  • Performs comprehensive sanitation audits and develops a streamlined tracking and reporting process for sanitation audit reports.

  • Compiles regular reports regarding inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies.

  • Develops training programs for sanitation, use of cleaning and sanitizing chemicals, safe chemical handling practices, and cGMP’s, and trains affected employees on such programs.

  • Manages and maintains Plant Master Sanitation Schedule & incorporates sanitation activities into maintenance management system.

  • Facilitates the implementation of action responses to address sanitation and regulatory trends.

  • Works closely with chemical suppliers on chemical changes/sanitation improvements, results and costs related to plant sanitation.  Responsible for chemical inventory, upkeep, and storage of sanitation supplies.

  • Supports the on-going plant pest monitoring and control program by managing plant pest control activities and contracted pest control service and maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations.

  • Coordinates with maintenance to conduct scheduled inspections during dismantling and reassembly of all processing equipment.

  • Regularly monitors all microbiological environmental and product testing results to validate sanitation program effectiveness. Investigate and respond to test results that need action.

  • Monitors finished product quality using Daily Production and Quality Assurance reports, investigating all issues and applying corrective actions as necessary while keeping appropriate management informed.

  • Inspect, observe, report, and correct any unsanitary practices or conditions.

  • Supervises, trains, and develops department staff to ensure compliance with Plant Master Sanitation program and other requirements.

  • Manages contracts for landscaping / snow removal.

  • Manages contracts for external building up-keep.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

            Requires 4-year undergraduate degree. Preference for degree in food science, biology,

            engineering, or other related field, but applicable experience will be considered.

Certification:

No licenses or certifications are required.  HACCP, USDA Better Process School, Project Management (PMP) and other certifications related to the needs of the position preferred.

Experience:

Three to five years of experience in product safety and sanitation role within a food & beverage, health & beauty, or pharmaceutical industry. Must have supervisory experience and knowledge of proper chemical usage and handling for food processing sanitation.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Requires:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. Working knowledge of JD Edwards Enterprise One software is a plus.

  • Understanding of CIP and COP processes.

  • Demonstrated ability for independent decision-making.

  • Detailed knowledge of food safety programs and governing agencies such as cGMP, HAACP, and FDA.

  • Proficiency in sanitation and quality procedures, cGMP’s, OSHA, SSOP’s, SQF, and Food safety requirements

  • Experience dealing with allergen and microbiological environment requiring a variety of cleaning and sanitization requirements.

  • Organizational skills necessary to ensure sanitation assignments are scheduled and completed.

  • Good oral and written communications skills and the ability to provide coaching and feedback to multiple levels and areas of the organization.

Physical Requirements:

General manufacturing and warehouse environment   Ability to work weekends and off-shifts as needed to ensure success of the program.

Environment:

Exposure to disagreeable elements is moderate. 

Safety:

The incumbent must be able to perform this job safely without endangering the health or safety of self or others.

Supervisory Responsibility:

The incumbent has direct supervisory responsibility of external contractor employees

Annual Pay

Annual Pay Range

$76,055.00 - $125,460.00

This represents the minimum and maximum base salary range for this role, plus annual incentive. Various elements are used to determine a candidate’s starting salary such as job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in the role.  This information is provided to applicants in accordance with state and local laws.
