The Analytical Scientist provides scientific leadership in method development, method optimization, method validation, and transfer. Provides analytical and technical expertise to support R&D Product Development. Supports Quality, Regulatory, and Legal. Provides leadership and direction to Analytical or Quality Control staff.

Key Responsibilities

Critical contributions this role is counted on to deliver include:

  • Develops and validates new analytical methods for identity, purity, strength (assay) and composition to support new product development. Ensure analytical methods are Stability Indicating to support product shelf life.

  • Responsible to ensure that Pharmavite Standard Methods (PSMs) and Compendial methods used for analysis are fit for purpose and are suitable for intended use. Responsible for optimization of existing analytical test methods to support new products and post-commercialization changes, or to support lab efficiency.

  • Conducts Accelerated Stability Studies for initial shelf-life assignment. Verifies that all testing is done per SOP requirements for each timepoint and ensures relevance of the data including interpreting data to give a shelf-life recommendation.

  • Validates and transfers new and existing test methods to Quality Control Labs, both internal and external, to support product release.

  • Creates, reviews, revises, and approves raw material and bulk specifications for Quality release per 21 CFR 111 and SOP.

  • Provides analytical expertise for New Product Initiatives (NPI) during discovery, development, and commercialization as project team members. Reviews and approves draft specifications for NPIs. Ensures methods for stability and special samples are evaluated for suitability and results submitted to Product Development are accurate and reliable.

  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements new analytical techniques and instrumentation in R&D and QC laboratories.

  • Conducts investigations for out-of-specification (OOS) and out-of-trend (OOT) analytical results; troubleshoots method and instrument issues.

  • Writes and reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Pharmavite Standard Methods (PSMs) as needed.

  • Actively engages in the scientific community for dietary supplements including USP,AOAC and GOED as thought leaders.

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to chemist and senior chemist.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is scientific oriented with strong background in analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, and varieties of analytical instrument operation. You are process oriented, and capable of making informed decisions based on knowledge and data and are able to influence effectively in a cross-functional team environment.   You are also needed to provide scientific guidance to junior chemists in the analytical services group

Critical Success Factors

You’ll be most successful in this role if you have:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of analytical techniques including chromatography and spectroscopy.

  • Ability to independently execute, develop, and validate test methods using instrumentation such as, but not limited to Liquid Chromatography (HPLC, UPLC, LC/MS), Gas Chromatography (GC), Spectroscopy (FTIR, Ramen, UV-Vis) and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-OES, ICP-MS).  

  • Some knowledge of Federal Regulations related to dietary supplements (21CFR111) and familiarity with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) specific to dietary supplements.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal, in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Strong project, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Competent skills in mathematics. Ability to statistically analyze and interpret data.

  • Competency in safely handling hazardous chemicals.


Required Skills & Capabilities

In order to take on these challenges, you’ll need to have: 

  • A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related Science. Advanced degree a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 5 years of relevant experience

  • Master’s degree with minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

  • PhD degree with minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

Annual Pay

Annual Pay Range

$91,328.00 - $136,940.00

This represents the minimum and maximum base salary range for this role, plus annual incentive. Various elements are used to determine a candidate’s starting salary such as job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in the role.  This information is provided to applicants in accordance with state and local laws.
