Position Summary:

As a member of the Packaging Line Team, the Lead Set-up Mechanic will perform a variety of semi-skilled mechanical work to perform precision equipment set-ups, assist with preventive maintenance and minor mechanical repairs and adjustments, will be responsible for cleaning, assembling, adjusting and installing tooling in support of production operations in accordance with production standards and assist in developing a training syllabus and qualification process for Set-up Mechanics.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Serve as technical expert to department Set-Up Mechanics, with the flexibility to work across all three shifts, extended shifts, etc.

  • Along with Training department resources, develop a training syllabus and qualification process for set-up mechanics and packaging technicians.

  • Lead root cause analysis of downtime and quality failures and implement the counter measures to correct failure at the root cause level.

  • Establish lubrication maps, lubrication plans and insure they are properly incorporated into the AM/PM initiatives.

  • Optimal settings - guide the AM teams through the process of establishing, documenting and tracking best equipment settings for each piece of equipment.

  • MRO parts - Track and order parts as needed.  Insure appropriate parts are stocked in MRO.

  • Work closely with the Maintenance Department to develop a strong PM program for each piece of equipment Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment by making regular inspections and completing assigned preventive maintenance work orders.

  • Streamline defect handling process, working closely with maintenance and packaging leadership.

  • Manage the process for change part usage and storage.

  • Use hand tools, portable power tools and material handling equipment to perform a precision set-up during production line change over.

  • Identifies and performs adjustments to improve production during line operation to meet all production requirements, including line speeds, daily production output and required change over times.

  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in equipment and performs minor repairs. Issues maintenance requests for major repairs. Assists maintenance technicians in diagnosing problems in order to learn to perform complex repairs.

  • Maintains all required documentation including cleaning logs, maintenance logs and production records.

  • Performs all duties in compliance with safety rules, Standard Operating Procedures and current Good manufacturing Practices.

  • Assists in the operation of production equipment by performing the duties of a Packaging Line technician and Packaging Line Lead when necessary.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or the equivalent.




Requires a working knowledge of the packaging operation, usually resulting from a minimum of three years’ experience as a Set Up Mechanic in the Packaging department.



  • Sufficient mechanical aptitude to perform routine repairs, adjustments and precision set-up procedures on packaging equipment.

  • The ability to safely work with standard hand tools and portable hands tools.

  • Read, write and speak English fluently in order to communicate equipment problems, read and understand operating manuals and maintain written records.

  • Sufficient computer literacy (windows, excel, etc.) to allow for creation/updating of JI’s/SOP’s/spreadsheets/reports/training docs.

Physical Requirements:       

Stand/walk and perform physical labor for most of the working shift.  Pull, push, squat, etc. to accomplish repairs.  Intermittently lift loads of up to 50 pounds. 


Intermittent exposure to noise levels loud enough to require the use of hearing protection.  Warm or cold temperature levels, fumes, vibration, dust, etc. sufficient to cause minor discomfort.  The need for the employee to wear a uniform, hair net, safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, dust mask, respirator, protective gloves and back support, as necessary.

Annual Pay

Annual Pay Range

$41,308.00 - $61,808.00

This represents the minimum and maximum base salary range for this role, plus annual incentive. Various elements are used to determine a candidate’s starting salary such as job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in the role.  This information is provided to applicants in accordance with state and local laws.

Pharmavite provides compensation for all overtime hours worked by non-exempt (hourly) employees in accordance with state and federal law. The need to work overtime hours will be determined by management, based on customer and business necessity to meet the needs of our business, Pharmavite may require employees to work overtime.

Voluntary overtime requested by non-exempt employees must be approved in advance by the employee’s supervisor.
